Photography Lesson from a Five-Year-Old
Went out for a walk today with my 5-year old daughter in Terrapin Nature Park. I handed her a point-and-shoot camera as I always do when we go out for walks.
This time around I noticed something different. She wasn't really taking too many photos so at the end of the walk I said to her... "You didn't take too many pictures today."
She replied: "Because I didn't see that many interesting things, Daddy."
I find great wisdom in that remark... not to mention from a five-year-old. When I go on trips like this I always tell myself that I HAVE to get some good photos or else the day would be a considered a bust.
Lessons learned:
1) Unless the trip is specifically planned for taking photos, don't get too caught up with the pressure of capturing an image. In this day's case, the main goal was to enjoy being out in nature with my daughter.
2) If you really set out to take photos, be prepared to accept the fact that there's a chance the day won't go well photography-wise.
